Madlib Drops New Mix for Gilles Peterson, Releases Summer Suite

Usually, when a record label puts out a new podcast, it's business as usual. But when Stones Throw production whiz Madlib is involved, it becomes an entirely different beast. Commissioned by BBC Radio 1's Gilles Peterson Worldwide program for an in-depth jazz presentation, Madlib has released the first hour of his work as a downloadable podcast through the hip-hop imprint.

The mix, available here, shows the producer exploring a jazz-heavy set that includes some incredibly obscure gems. The set comes courtesy of some sessions Madlib did with fellow Stone-Thrower J Rocc while DJ Gilles Peterson was away. Each DJ did two sessions, the remainder of which can be heard here.

Of course, this isn't the only jazz currently streaming out of Madlib's consciousness. The busybody has also just released Summer Suite, a mini-LP from his jazz fusion project known as the Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz & Percussion Ensemble.

Available on CD and digital download, the project consists of one long track divided into four parts. The piece was originally released on CD-R in 2007, and can now be purchased here.

The label is promising that the Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz & Percussion Ensemble's proper album, titled Miles Away, will be released soon, as well as another mini-LP titled Fall Release, naturally due this fall.
