The Mad Scene Return with New Sonic Boom-Produced Album

BY Alex HudsonPublished Mar 19, 2012

The Mad Scene haven't released much in the way of new music in the past decade and a half, something that's understandable given that the busy band members include Hamish Kilgour of the Clean and Georgia Hubley of Yo La Tengo. That will change on April 17 when they issue Blip via Siltbreeze Records.

The new full-length was produced by Sonic Boom, the Spacemen 3 sound wizard who recently helmed MGMT's Congratulations and Panda Bear's Tomboy.

According to a press release, "Blip is a masterful mélange of sounds, mixing a range of influences such as nascent Flying Nun chug, Television Personalities DIY psych, shambling Pastels-like rockers and Sarah label indie pop nuggets."

Unlike many of the New York-via-New Zealand band's underground influences, this collection is said to offer "aural perfection." It will be available on vinyl and as a digital download.

There are 12 songs in all, meaning that the Mad Scene are averaging less than a song a year at this point. Still, we won't hold that against them. See the tracklist below.

Blip:

1. "Cupid 2"

2. "Lorelei"

3. "Quiet Day"

4. "Aganopolis"

5. "Cat Burglar"

6. "T. Rex"

7. "Cupid 1"

8. "Nasty Girl"

9. "Dead Air on the Radio"

10. "Fontaine"

11. "Suzy"

12. "Valium Beach"
