Oakland metal lords Machine Head have scrapped plans to head out on tour this fall, citing a need to complete the studio sessions for their upcoming Bloodstone & Diamonds as the reason for the cancelled concerts.
A statement from the band was issued today (September 18) over Facebook, stating that "with great disappointment" the album delays have forced the act to scrap their fall schedule.
"Our new album Bloodstone & Diamonds has taken longer to complete than expected and we had to make the difficult choice to either delay the album, let it go out as incomplete, or cancel the tour in order to properly finish and promote the album in the caliber it needs to be done," they explained in the joint statement. "We decided postponing the tour was the best decision for the record."
It's further explained that vocalist/guitarist Rob Flynn recently returned from a press tour playing rough mixes of the songs to preview the record, which the group still plan to issue this November 10 in North America and the UK via Nuclear Blast. The European release is set to land earlier, on November 7.
The tour was intended to start on October 4 in Denver, with Children of Bodom, Battlecross and Epica acting as openers. It would have hit Canadian venues in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Edmonton and Saskatoon. A new tour schedule has been planned for the new year, though details have yet to be delivered.
As previously reported, recording sessions for Bloodstone & Diamonds have been underway at Bay Area studio JingleTown Recording, with Flynn co-producing alongside Juan Urteaga. Described by Flynn as having "a dark and evil vibe," it also features strings from previous collaborators Quartet Rouge.
