Mac DeMarco

"Undone - The Sweater Song" (Weezer cover)

If you've seen Mac DeMarco in concert of late, you probably heard him and his band gleefully butcher tracks like the Beatles' "Blackbird" and Bachman-Turner Overdrive's "Takin Care of Business" in a tongue-in-cheek medley. If that's the case, then the smarmy take on Weezer's "Undone - The Sweater Song" the band did for The AV Club recently should come as no surprise.

Before the quartet jump into the track, DeMarco tells the interviewer "We were able to learn it in the car on the drive here." From there, he and bassist Pierce McGarry mumble their way through the familiar spoken-word intro of the alt-rock anthem. DeMarco's falsetto vibrato is in fine form for the finale, though. A janky guitar solo quirks up the proceedings, but otherwise it's a simple reworking of a simple song.

Not life altering, but as DeMarco puts it with a shrug after wrapping the cover: "that works!"
