Anthony Gonzalez delivered his latest M83 album, Junk, earlier this year, but his next creative endeavour will see him taking on a whole different kind of ringleader role. He's teaming up with actual circus artists to be the composer and musical director of the next Cirque Du Soleil show.

The wildly popular circus act's next touring show is titled VOLTA, and it will be setting up shop under the Big Top in Monteal's Old Port as of April 20.

According to a press release, VOLTA tells a story about "the freedom to choose and the thrill of blazing your own trail," bringing exhilarating acrobatics, extravagant visual design and a stirring score together on stage.

Gonzalez shared a statement about his involvement with the project, which reads:

When [writer and director] Jean and Bastien first approached me, I was immediately excited about the idea of working with Cirque du Soleil. Not just because they are a company known throughout the world, but also because I was deeply attracted by the story of VOLTA, and the spirit that underpins the show. The story of VOLTA is ours. It is a tale of a generation who is calling for change and I was very keen to contribute to telling this story. I'm deeply honored to be part of the Cirque team and it's a wonderful new challenge in unknown territory for me. Ultimately, it's challenges like this that I find so inspiring and drive me to make the music that I do.

Tickets for the upcoming production went on sale today (December 5), and you can find full details here.
