Lydia Ainsworth released her debut album Right From Real back in 2014, and now the Toronto artist is ready to follow that up with a new LP titled Darling of the Afterglow. It's due out March 31 through Arbutus Records/Bella Union.
The album artwork was designed by Tonje Thilesen and is pictured above, while the full tracklisting can be found below.
The 11-track album features an array of local Toronto musicians, whose work gets laced into Ainsworth's own programming, sampling and string arrangements. Although all of the new songs begun with inspiration and ideas away from home, it was brought together and completed in her hometown.
"I usually have to be out of my element to get that spark of inspiration," she explained in a statement.
Darling of the Afterglow hears Ainsworth bringing together experimental synths, classical influences and "weird-gothic R&B" vibes, and the first example of that sound can be heard on lead single, "The Road."
The song has been paired with a video, courtesy of the artist's sister Abby Ainsworth, which you can watch at the bottom of the page.
In addition to sharing the album news and video, Ainsworth has revealed a string of upcoming tour dates that will see her make Canadian stops in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. You'll also find the complete list of upcoming shows below.
