Ontario- and Quebec-based band Lychi brings together members of No Hands and Shahman in a new three-piece setup, and they're ready to unleash their self-titled debut EP. Before its official release on February 17 via Alternatives Label, though, Exclaim! is giving you an exclusive advanced listen.
The record features four new tracks that hear Mathew Morand, Roye Truong and Robert Johnson ditching the limitations of "heavy music," drawing on a range of influences and experimenting in the studio.
Despite living in different cities, the members collaborated by sharing home demos and hashing things out in a practice space before entering the studio for a bit more experimentation. The majority of the lyrics came together in the studio, resulting in "something that is often spur of a moment and inevitably surprising."
