The Luyas Sign to Dead Oceans, Play Pop Montreal

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Sep 29, 2010

While Montreal's the Luyas are likely excited enough as it is to be playing their hometown at this week's massive Pop Montreal festival, emotions must be running high within the camp following yesterday's announcement (September 28) that the band have been signed to Dead Oceans.

Joining the ranks of the Tallest Man on Earth and Frog Eyes, the Luyas are another outsider venture, as the group have been twisting psychedelic, down-tempo bedroom jams around singer Jesse Stein's innocent coo since 2007's Faker Death. Contributing to the band's doe-eyed, late-night jams are Pietro Amato (Bell Orchestre, Torngat, part-time Arcade Fire associate), Mathieu Charbonneau and Stefan Schneider (Bell Orchestre).

A report on Brooklyn Vegan posts a note from the label, welcoming the Quebec act to the family.

The post reads:

We recently fell head over heels for the space-age experimental pop sound of the Luyas, and after a long courtship, some late night long distance phone calls, and at least one senior prom dance, we can now welcome them to the Dead Oceans' family.

The Luyas are currently working on their Dead Oceans debut with engineer Jeff McMurrich (Tindersticks, Constantines), which is expected to drop early next year.

Come celebrate with the band at Pop Montreal when they play La Sala Rosa Thursday (September 30).
