The Luyas Announce Dead Oceans Debut

BY Alex HudsonPublished Nov 18, 2010

In their first few years of existence, Montreal's the Luyas have flown under the radar, quietly building a following with their spacey, experimental indie pop sound. They're bound to start garnering some serious buzz soon, however, as the band have paired up with Dead Oceans for their label debut, Too Beautiful to Work, which will be released on February 22.

According to a press release, the album is a "picture-perfect collection of echo-drenched space-age pop songs" that "buzzes and pops into retro-futurist sonic bliss." It promises to include "heady pop sounds," as well as more "cinematic and atmospheric" pieces.

The LP was recorded at 6 Nassau in Toronto, ON with Jeff McMurrich. Owen Pallet played violin and arranged strings, while Arcade Fire's Sarah Neufeld added some violin of her own and Daniel Romano guested on bass. Other friends played a variety of instruments, like flute, bassoon, cello, clarinet and saxophone.
