Last year, we marked Loviet as one of our must-hear New Faves — and now, the singer-songwriter has announced her upcoming full-length debut album. The East Coast-born/Toronto-based artist will deliver 777 on November 18.
The pop artist released the album's first single, "Picture," to kick off the album announcement. The track reveals Loviet's reckoning with identity in the age of technology. "I feel like I'm trying to reach back to a place that's earthy and cathartic while I'm being pulled forward in the vicious cycles of social media and modernity," she said in a statement. "I created the initial track at a kitchen table during a 14-day quarantine and wanted to get all my frustrations out."
Loviet elaborated on the dissonance between her online and everyday identity:
I don't know the version of myself that I'm putting online and I don't understand the relationship I have with it, but it tortures me daily, and I know the way I used to live versus now and that haunts me too. I'd like to be at peace with both but think it's all just too fucked up, and I'd like to know it's worth it in the end.
With an addictive beat and breathy vocals, "Picture" arrives with a video featuring Loviet travelling through a field bathed in surreal, purple light. The artist stumbles and contorts as she moves across the screen — as if her internal struggle is manifesting in her physical movements.
In the meantime, Loviet will continue touring North America alongside Texas King, another Ontario-based act. She will be performing next on October 23 at Toronto's Comeback Fest, and tickets for the subsequent tour are available for purchase here.
