The Love Below

Demo 2009

BY Bradley Zorgdrager Published Apr 3, 2012

The Love Below's Demo 2009 starts off with a sample from the movie There Will Be Blood. Over feedback and a building rhythm section, Daniel Day Lewis's character (Daniel Plainview) proclaims, "I have a competition in me. I want no one else to succeed. I hate most people." The Love Below take that clip as their personal mantra, as this album is driven by a desire to surpass peers Left For Dead ― a band that heavily influenced the Love Below's brand of noise on this release. The misanthropic push to win forces the band's hardcore/power violence sound to impressive heights on tracks such as "Nothing is Private," "Video Nasty," "All's Well That Ends Well" and "It's not a Tumor." Oh, wait, that's the whole album. But what it lacks in length it makes up for in sheer velocity. As the old adage goes: quality over quantity.
