Lou Barlow Sheds Light on New Dinosaur Jr. Album, Upcoming Sebadoh Releases

BY Alex HudsonPublished Feb 6, 2012

Lately, Dinosaur Jr.'s attention has been fixed firmly on the past, as projects have recently included reissuing their early albums, taking 1988's Bug on tour and giving some old songs a synth-pop reworking. This may soon change, however, as the band have begun recording a new album.

Back-in-the-fold Dinosaur Jr. member Lou Barlow tweeted on February 1, "dino jr new lp day 1: drew viking ships and googled Thor pics with rory (j's son) .. got a bass sound.. start jamming tomorrow." A subsequent update said, "dino jr new lp day 5:song #4! J flirts with sampling, settles on a live take, a keeper?? suggest learning one of my songs, murf says 'meh.."

He's also been fielding questions from fans, giving us a clue on what the album might sound like. When queried about the guitars on the as-yet-untitled album, Barlow responded, "not as many, j , much like ed van halen circa 1984 has discovered keyboards."

It's unclear whether he's joking or being serious, but the results are bound to be interesting either way. Tracking is taking place at Mascis's house.

In other exciting studio news, Barlow revealed that he'd soon transition into recording a new Sebadoh album in "late March into April." What's more, on March 6, Barlow will re-release the 1987 Sentridoh album Weed Forestin'. In fact, you can order a copy in a variety of formats over at Bandcamp.

He also hinted that Dinosaur Jr. frontman J Mascis might have a solo album on the way, writing, "j mixes jam psych muzak solo lp."

Stay tuned for more updates, and be sure to keep your eyes peeled to Barlow's Twitter account for more.
