Convicted pedophile Ian Watkins, who once fronted the Welsh alt-rock band Lostprophets, was stabbed in prison after being taken hostage by three inmates on Saturday (August 5) while serving his 29-year sentence for multiple sex offences involving young children.

The disgraced musician sustained numerous stab wounds during a six-hour standoff between his three fellow prisoners and corrections officers, wherein he was reportedly stabbed and beaten repeatedly.

He was hospitalized for injuries that BBC reported as "not life-threatening." Meanwhile, a source told tabloid The Mirror quite the opposite: "There are fears he could die. If he survives, he'll have been very lucky."

"Police are investigating an incident which took place on Saturday at HMP Wakefield," a spokesperson for Prison Service said in a statement. "We are unable to comment further while the police investigate."

Watkins was sentenced nearly 10 years ago in December 2013 for charges including the rape of a child under the age of 13 and conspiracy to rape a baby. In 2019, he was given an additional 10 months for possession of a mobile phone, which he claimed other inmates were forcing him to hold onto.
