Los Amigos Invisibles

Venezuelan Zinga Son Vol.1

BY Sergio ElmirPublished Jan 1, 2006

Venezuela’s Los Amigos Invisibles return with their first release since they started to produce remixes for the likes of Beastie Boys, Basement Jaxx and Fantastic Plastic Machine. Venezuelan Zinga Son Vol.1 is a pure dance floor record, produced by Kenny Dope and Louie Vega of Masters at Work; on this record, Los Amigos go from funky rockers to disco-house groovers. The tracks that stand out are the few that sound more like the guitar-led rhythms from albums past, than the other more laptop-enhanced tracks. At some point the album’s two poles, funky rock and disco-house, come to meet, and grind out some extremely entertaining music. "Esto Es Lo Que Hay” is a soulful salsa track that embraces its house side to create the image that the group set out to create; a record that could be taken to the beach to chill out or to the party to dance to. From this track on, the record becomes a mash up of jazz, disco, funk, salsa, mambo and a whole lot of soul. Check out the disco-descarga sounding rhythms of "Calne” they would make anybody get up off the beach and start dancing like Frankie and Annette.
