Lorde dropped her excellent new record Melodrama last week, and a recent interview once again has her sharing the spotlight with her famous friend Taylor Swift.

The pair are noted pals, but in a new interview Lorde described their best friendship with an analogy that has raised a few eyebrows.

"It's like having a friend with very specific allergies," she told the Guardian, explaining the difficulties of managing a relationship with somebody as famous as Swift. "There are certain places you can't go together. Certain things you can't do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It's like having a friend with an autoimmune disease."

A number of fans were quick to pounce on Lorde for the bizarre and potentially offensive comparison, and one Twitter user even brought Selena Gomez into the equation. "I wonder how @selenagomez feels about this," @stefinitley85 tweeted. "What an incredibly ignorant analogy to make @lorde."

Another noted Swift bestie, Gomez very publicly revealed her own battle with the autoimmune disease lupus last year.

Lorde has since replied to the tweet, saying that she didn't specifically discuss her relationship with Swift, but apologized for the insensitive analogy nevertheless.
