Loot North By Northeast Toronto ON June 11 to 15

The opening slot of a multi-artist show is never a good gig, and all of its drawbacks are amplified in a festival like NXNE. But New York City’s Loot wasn’t about to let that kill his flow, as the animated MC delivered a tight, revelatory set of snappy, often guitar-tinged beats, soulful hoots and diverse lyrical themes before an understandably paltry Gladstone crowd. With his DJ Suga Ray on the decks, the two made sure to represent the old while presenting the new, serving up old school turntablism, odes to hip-hop royalty, and a hype summer fashion rundown in single "Fresh.”
