Published May 26, 2011Toronto-based singer-songwriter Brooke Manning has been at work on her LOOM project since 2009, meaning her sparse indie rock songs will have steeped for a while before they're released on her debut album later this year. Take, for example, the warm blanket of sound on her new single "Around Again" (Island Mix).
The track builds on a dense guitar sound and Manning's silky smooth vocal delivery that eventually climaxes with a distorted second vocal track and some super minimal drums. Sonic indicators from Julie Doiron and slowcore pioneers like Low are definitely at play, but this song stands on its own and points to potentially great things on LOOM's debut.
"Around Again" (Island Mix) and the accompanying track "Intro" will be released as a digital single on June 7 by Nevado Records. A different version of the song will be available on LOOM's forthcoming debut album, which will be released on September 13 via Nevado.
