Look Vibrant's Alex Rand Plots Solo EP, Premieres "Boyhood Places"

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Oct 20, 2017

Look Vibrant have yet to release their debut full-length, but band member Alex Rand is already branching out with a solo endeavour. He'll release an EP titled Sundial early next year.

Rand described the four-track set as "a collection of experimental-pop songs that explore a wide range of lo-fi sonic textures and harmonic colours within the frame of more accessible pop forms and melodies."

Along with his Look Vibrant bandmate Matt Murphy, who produced the EP, Rand toys with elements of modern pop, indie rock and R&B, deconstructing and assembling musical components into a style they've playfully dubbed "Art&B."

The first sampling from the upcoming EP, due out via Jurassic Pop, arrives with "Boyhood Places." It blends drum loops, vocal harmonies, bass grooves and even a sax solo into a space-y, psyched-out swirl of sound.

Both "Boyhood Places" and "My Mettle Changes" will be released on a 7-inch record, while the full EP will eventually get treated to a cassette release.
