Published Oct 28, 2011Three years ago, Long Blondes singer Kate Jackson announced that she was planning to embark upon a solo career after the breakup of her band. Now, finally, the big-voiced frontwoman has announced her debut single.
The seven-inch record includes two songs: "Wonder Feeling" on the A-side and "The Atlantic" on the flip. You can listen to both tracks below. Clearly, Jackson hasn't lost her affection for intimately confessional lyrics and brash pop melodies.
According to a product description on the Vinyl Factory, "Wonder Feeling" is "a mini road movie, a story of teenage rebellion and lust played out in a landscape of English motorways, suburban bedrooms and late night indie discos." As for "The Atlantic," it "tells the tale of an in-flight, all night party symbolizing the short terms rush yet long term hangover of an affair conducted between the two cities."
So what took Jackson so long to ready this single? Well, back in 2008 she said, "I'm writing a lot of lyrics and I'm trying to write music on my own, which is something I've never done before."
Evidently, the tunes didn't come to her quickly, but she clearly brought the goods for this single. The songs were produced and co-written by Suede guitarist Bernard Butler at his 335 Studio.
The seven-inch will be released in a limited run of 300 copies, which will come housed in triple gatefold sleeve with original artwork by Jackson herself. Each package was individually screen printed, numbered and signed.
It will come out December 5 and is available exclusively from the Vinyl Factory. You can pre-order a copy now, but we must warn you -- it will set you back £20 ($31.91).
