Lock Up

Pleasures Pave Sewers

BY Chris GramlichPublished Feb 1, 2000

This group takes their name from the term Lock Up — meaning the art of stiffening the arms for drumming prolonged blast beats. Considering this is more or less an offshoot project by Napalm Death members Shame Embury and Jesse Pintado (bass and guitar, respectively) — along with vocalist Peter Tagtgren (Hypocrisy) and drummer Nick Barker (ex-Cradle of Filth, current Dimmu Borgir) — should help clue you in. Pleasure Pave Sewers is laden with no nonsense death/grind; elements of Morbid Angel, Napalm Death (obviously), Slayer and other stalwarts of all things brutal can be easily detected. But it is the raw aggression and energy that shines through that makes Pleasures enjoyable. Considering the pedigree of the players involved, you might expect something more adventurous, but that was never the intent of Lock Up. They simply remind people what heavy music is all about.
