Little Scream Reveals Debut LP, Gets Members of Arcade Fire, the National, Stars and Silver Mt. Zion to Guest

Having made a name for herself in Montreal's music scene, singer-songwriter Little Scream (aka Laurel Sprengelmeyer) is now getting set to bring her spaced-out folk rock stylings to the rest of the world. On April 12, she will release her debut LP, The Golden Record, via Outside Music.

The album is named after the records taken up by the Voyager spacecraft in 1977, which were intended to represent the language and music of earth to any extraterrestrial life forms that might find them. Fittingly, Little Scream's album is full of ethereal noises and experimentation, and according to the press release, it contains "celestial echoes and otherworldly buzzes."

As previously reported, the album also contains its fair share of guests. The Golden Record was co-produced by Arcade Fire/Bell Orchestre's Richard Reed Parry, who also plays on the record, and it features contributions by fellow Arcade Fire/Bell Orchestre member Sarah Neufeld, as well as Mike Feuerstack (Snailhouse), Becky Foon (Silver Mt. Zion) and Patty McGee (Stars). To top it off, the National's Aaron Dessner helps out on the track "The Heron and the Fox."

In fact, go here for a free download of "The Heron and the Fox," which sets Little Scream's gentle coo against barely-there guitar plucking and a swirl of background atmospherics. You can hear the noiser "Cannons" and the haunting "Ahmal" over at MySpace.

Little Scream has scored herself a number of choice opening slots in the coming weeks. She will be playing shows with Julie Doiron, Plants and Animals, and Sharon Van Etten. See the schedule below the tracklist.
