Little Miss Higgins Announces 'Bison Ranch Recording Sessions' With the Winnipeg Five

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jul 31, 2013

Little Miss Higgins was born in Brooks, AB, before being raised in Independence, KS. She now makes her home in Nokomis, SK, and, adding even further to her Prairie cred, just teamed up with a group called the Winnipeg Five for a new album. Their collaborative record, Bison Ranch Recording Sessions, is out on September 3.

The so-called Winnipeg Five are typically known as the F-Holes, a rootsy quintet from — you guessed it — Winnipeg, MB. Higgins joined forces with the band for a live-off-the-floor recording session at a converted bison ranch during a chilly April.

According to a press release, "Bison Ranch Recording Sessions includes all the creaks, crackles, and crow cawing that one would expect. The experience of recording live brought out the authenticity of the music, the talent of the musicians and the connection of the group." The album follows Higgins' 2010 release Across the Plains.

The cover artwork is above and the tracklist is below. At the bottom of this page, stream the rustic opening cut "Heavy Train," and note that it's possible to hear the crackling of the fire in the background.

Expect Little Miss Higgins & the Winnipeg Five to tour North America in support of the record.
