Listen to Okkervil River's I Am Very Far Now on Exclaim.ca

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 2, 2011

Last year, Okkervil River took a break from their own band to support Roky Erickson on his album True Love Cast Out All Evil. Now, Will Sheff and co. are back with a new record of their own, I Am Very Far. The album officially drops on May 10, but until then, you can stream the entire thing here at Exclaim.ca in our Click Hear department.

Frontman Sheff self-produced the collection, which was written immediately after the sessions with Erickson were complete. The songwriter explained in a press release, "I wanted to go back home and restart writing again, like I'd never written a song previously." This resulted in around 30 songs, which were later narrowed down to the 11 that appear on the album.

Exclaim! recently spoke to Sheff about the album, with the frontman telling us Okkervil collectors will have something to look forward to courtesy of some import versions of the record.

"I did a different Japanese sequence of the record with different songs on it in a slightly different order with different artwork and colour schemes, and I did a different Australian version," he says, adding, "There's that whole thrill that you used to feel when you were younger and you would find the import only version of something, it was this whole alternate universe version of the same thing. So it was that kind of power... to create an alternate universe."
