Published May 04, 2010Given the hullabaloo that followed the band's 2007 Polaris-nominated sophomore album, LP, it seems odd how quiet Toronto electronic noisemakers Holy Fuck have been over the last three years. As it turns out, the band were holed up in a barn-turned-studio, recording their third album, Latin, which is now streaming all week long here at Exclaim.ca
You can hear it now just by clicking here.
Latin was recorded and produced here in Canada by band member Graham Walsh, but the list of special guests invited to mix the album is something else entirely. Dave Newfeld (Broken Social Scene), D.Sardy (Johnny Cash, NIN), Eli Janney (Girls Against Boys) and Paul Epworth (Bloc Party, Primal Scream) were all invited to take part in the mixing of Latin, along with Holy Fuck themselves.
The finished product will hit North American shelves on May 11, courtesy of XL/Young Turks, and will mark the first time the band have recorded consecutively with the same line-up. Touring drummer Matt Schulz and bass player Matt McQuaid have now settled into the official line-up, and the band's newfound cohesiveness is audible. On Latin, the quartet sounds confident, creatively invigorated and, to paraphrase our review of Holy Fuck's recent show at Wavelength 500, "brimming with spontaneity."
But go ahead and listen for yourself. Latin will be streaming on Exclaim.ca until May 10.
