Published Oct 13, 2009After nearly two decades of chaotic shows and heavier-than-thou music, Converge have come a long way since their self-confessed "hardcore kids with leftover Slayer riffs" roots. But the excitement around their music has stayed the same. Fans' mouths have been collectively watering since front-man Jake Bannon announced plans for Converge's eighth studio album, and anticipation has grown throughout the year with every new detail revealed.
The new album, Axe to Fall, will be coming out October 20 via Epitaph Records, but Exclaim! readers can crank up their speakers all week with our full-album stream.

Converge have influenced and inspired many bands within the hardcore, punk and metal scenes, so it should come as no surprise that the new album features guest appearances from some of the genre's elite, including John Pettibone (Undertow, Himsa), Ulf Cederlund (Entombed, Disfear), Steve Brodsky, Adam McGrath and J.R. Connors (Cave In), as well as F. Sean Martin (Hatebreed), George Hirsch (Blacklisted) and many more.
The sense of "community" showcases old-school hardcore values, but Converge continue forward, pushing themselves relentlessly to stay on top as aggressive music royalty. Axe to Fall does just that, showcasing why the band have reigned supreme for almost 20 years with no sign of slowing down.
Axe to Fall will be streaming on Exclaim.ca until October 19.
