Listen to a New Monkees Song Written by Weezer's Rivers Cuomo

As previously reported, '60s pop primates the Monkees have teamed up with some of alternative rock's greatest songwriters to create a new album called Good Times! It's a dubious idea for an album, but today we get our first sample and it's not all that bad.

"She Makes Me Laugh" was penned by Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo, who manages to sneak a Scrabble reference into the charming and saccharine pop tune. It's really quite a pleasant little tune.

"I'm super stoked to be writing a song for the Monkees," Cuomo said. "I've always identified with their musical aesthetic – the chord changes and melodies."

In addition to Cuomo, Good Times! features Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard, Oasis' Noel Gallagher, Paul Weller and others.

Listen to "She Makes Me Laugh" below, and enjoy the Good Times! when the Monkees' new album drop on May 27 via
Rhino.
