Lisa LeBlanc

"Gold Diggin' Hoedown" (video)

Acadian singer-songwriter Lisa LeBlanc released her EP Highways, Heartaches and Time Well Wasted more than a year ago now, but she clearly hasn't forgotten about the collection, since she just released a video for the track "Gold Diggin' Hoedown."

The song is a twangy, hard-charging slice of hillbilly punk, and the song's unique vibe is accompanied by a similarly intriguing examination of a Japanese woman with a fascination with country and western culture. We see her walking around Tokyo in a cowboy hat, line dancing with some like-minded cowboy-lovers, and performing country karaoke, while other scenes show her going to the countryside to ride a horse.

Director Didier Charette said in a statement, "It was really interesting to shoot with Sanae because we couldn't really talk, she didn't speak English and I don't speak Japanese. So I had my little book, with basic Japanese stuff I had written down to tell her what I wanted to film. People would give us looks as a Japanese cowgirl was walking with three male foreigners."
