Lindy Vopnfjörd Gets 'Frozen in Time' for New LP, Premieres New Track

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 29, 2016

Lindy Vopnfjörd's last solo effort arrived with 2013's Young Waverer, and now the Icelandic-Canadian musician is ready to return with the next album under his own name. Titled Frozen in Time, the new album is set to land on October 28.

The upcoming record was produced by Vopnfjörd's Major Maker bandmate Todor Kobakov and features additional help on guitar from Whitehorse's Luke Doucet.

The new set of songs hears the singer-songwriter exploring themes of "hope, despair, triumph and loss" across sonic landscapes that range from common and dulcet-light to epic and dark. Those themes and sounds come to life through Vopnfjörd's acoustic guitar and stories about everything from freedom champions to Vikings to his love for his wife.

The first sampling of the new material arrives as "Melting," and you can listen to it right now.

"'Melting' was written at the Reykjavik Folk Festival," Vopnfjörd tells Exclaim! "The Icelandic artists performing there were mind blowing. Like lava and glaciers, Icelandic poetry and music are always claiming new ground. And while I was there, the weather kept changing drastically every five minutes. It was like I was transported to another world."
