Lily Allen is currently in talks to star as Doctor Who's assistant in the fifth series of the popular sci-fi program. According to Gigwise the BBC are looking to sign Allen to a long-term contract in addition to her forthcoming TV series for the network's BBC 3 channel that pays homage to social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace. Allen would replace comedian Catherine Tate, who is currently filling the role of the Doctor's assistant, Donna. One of the show's producers said: "Lily is multi-talented. She comes from more of a TV background than a musical one. After the chat show we hope she’ll take over from Catherine as Doctor Who’s assistant. We’ve talked to her and she was excited by the idea.”

In other news, the role of the Doctor is also currently up in the air after Tennant finishes his third series this season. According to inside sources, Welsh actor Rhys Ifans (Twin Town, Human Nature) has been tipped to play the 11th Doctor.
