Lily Allen Blames EMI for Album Delays, Almost Fights Heckler

Though it’s due at some point in 2008, details about the upcoming sophomore record from British pop starlet Lily Allen — the Mark Ronson prodigy that’s not addicted to crack — are confusing everyone, including the singer. According to a post on Allen’s MySpace blog, she has no idea what’s going on or when her label EMI will release the finished album.

The post reads:

Now, the album. It has been finished for a while now, I don't really know whats going on with it. The record industry is a very political place at the moment and I am on EMI records, lots of people have been fired or have taken redundancy recently as the company was taken over by a private equity firm called Terra Firma. Many of these people were people assigned to my projects and now I don't quite know what's going on. I'm sure everyone will find their feet soon enough and I'll be able to put the album out soon .

In the meantime, there are the Olympics to watch and the football seasons starting, which are both far more entertaining anyway.

Fortunately, Allen has been posting a number of new tracks and demos on her MySpace that should sustain fans until the record label rigmarole is settled.

In news unrelated to the album, Allen was photographed and videotaped trying to throw a punch at a heckler outside of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London early this morning (Aug 20)). Insults were traded and while the altercation reportedly lasted a few minutes, no "cat fight” developed.
