Published Oct 19, 2009Lil Wayne and his label need to get on the same page. Last week, the rapper suggested that his long-delayed rock crossover album The Rebirth would likely be a double album, saying that it may be packaged with the Young Money All-Stars compilation. However, Birdman, the CEO of Cash Money Records, told a rather different story when he spoke to MTV UK about the label's release plans for Lil Wayne.
Birdman said that "we won't release The Rebirth as a double CD like people are saying," neglecting to mention the fact that "some people" actually refers to Weezy himself.
In addition to The Rebirth, Birdman says the label will also be releasing Tha Carter IV on December 15. The album is the follow-up to last year's smash hit Tha Carter III.
In fact, according to Birdman, both new albums are due to come out before the end of the year. "We're looking to take over the game completely, flood the market," he said of why the label is releasing two albums so close together.
Birdman is probably imagining winning the Grammy for best rock album as well, but given the chilly reception the single "Prom Queen" received earlier this year, we wouldn't count on it.
