Lil Wayne's 'Tha Carter V' Gets Fitted with May Release Date

News of Lil Wayne prepping Tha Carter V broke last fall, and over the weekend it was confirmed that the next instalment in the long-running series of LPs arrives May 5.

Young Money bud Drake let the news slip onstage last Friday (February 14) at an NBA All-Star Game party hosted at New Orleans' House of Blues, revealing the May 5 due date before bringing Weezy up on stage. The timing of the release is a fitting one, considering the fifth Tha Carter album is now set to drop on the fifth day of the fifth month.

The details behind the album have yet to be delivered, but as previously reported, Tha Carter V is supposed to be Lil Wayne's final full-length. Last spring, an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live had the rapper claiming, "I want to retire after Tha Carter V, which I hope would be my last album."

Whether or not it will pan out as such remains to be seen, as Weezy made similar comments ahead of releasing Tha Carter IV in 2011.

Ahead of Tha Carter V, though, Young Money/Cash Money will deliver the Young Money: Rise of An Empire compilation on March 11. Lil Wayne, Euro and Birdman team up for the set's "We Alright," which was just treated to a bottle poppin', work eschewin' music video that you can see below.
