Published Oct 22, 2009Well, we suddenly understand why Lil Wayne's label is trying to squeeze two albums out before the end of 2009. Today (October 22), the rapper pleaded guilty to attempted weapon possession and expects to be handed a one-year jail sentence.
As the Associated Press reports, the plea in a Manhattan courtroom stemmed from a July 2007 arrest, in which a gun was found on Wayne's tour bus following his first headlining concert in New York. Wayne, 27, had previously pleaded not guilty to the illegal gun possession charges.
During the trial, Wayne apparently said very little, answering the judge's questions with a simple "yes, sir" or "no sir." When asked what type of gun he possessed, he said he owned a .40-calibre semi-automatic, AP reports.
Sentencing is expected to go down in February. Until then, Wayne remains free on bail.
Unfortunately for Wayne, his legal problems don't end there. The rapper is also due to go to trial in Arizona over felony drug possession and weapons charges. He has pleaded not guilty in that case, which is connected to a January 2008 arrest.
