Published Jun 21, 2010As you read this, raspy-voiced rap superstar Lil Wayne is serving an eight-month jail sentence in New York for attempted criminal possession of a weapon in 2007. He's due for release this fall, but that's not the end of Lil Wayne's legal troubles. On a separate occasion in January of 2008, Weezy was arrested for possession of large quantities of marijuana, cocaine and ecstasy, along with an illegal firearm, in Arizona.
Wayne originally pleaded not guilty to the charges and posted over $10,000 in bail. The case hasn't gone away, however, and Wayne has been forced to make repeated appearances in court.
Most recently, Billboard reports that Wayne appeared before an Arizona judge via a video feed from his jail cell in New York and changed his plea to guilty for some of the charges. As a result, the judge dismissed parts of the charges. This means that Wayne may be able to avoid more jail time, and will instead face 36 months of probation.
We're really hoping they keep Weezy out of the klink, as we can't wait to hear his proposed collaborative LP with Drake, along with the long rumoured Carter IV album. We're also hoping he's learned a valuable lesson about not stocking his tour bus full of illegal substances, which should be a no-brainer by now.
