Published Mar 18, 2011Last year, rumours began circulating that Lil Wayne would drop his new LP, Tha Carter IV, the day he was released from prison. Obviously that didn't happen, but Weezy has finally given us a new date we can expect the album to arrive in stores. In an interview, he said that it would come out on May 16.
He told MTV, "Tha Carter IV will be dropping May 16. If you're not doing anything, do me."
This announcement is long overdue. Back in 2009, Lil Wayne promised that both Tha Carter IV and Rebirth would be out before the end of the year. The rapper is apparently as tired of waiting as we are.
"Tha Carter IV is done," he said. "All they need to do is tell Tez [manager Cortez Bryant] to stop sitting on it. Tez, stop sitting on Tha Carter IV and put the album out."
He added, "It can come out tomorrow 'cause I'm so finished."
As previously reported, the album includes the Bangladesh-produced new single "6'7." That track sparked a controversy when Bangladesh was accused of ripping off the beat, but those allegations appear to have been dropped. Listen to the song below.
Here's hoping that, after so many delays, this Tha Carter IV release date actually sticks.
