Published Dec 23, 2008From now until January 13, I'll be featuring my favourite tracks of 2008, some of which have already appeared in Click Hear throughout the year, some of which haven't.
With the year he had, Lil Wayne had to be in the mix somewhere. Making more guest appearances in one year than Busta Rhymes has made in his entire intrusive career, Weezy saved the best for his mammoth achievement, Tha Carter III.
That album's best track had the year's mightiest bass, capable of blowing low-riding douche-bags' woofers worldwide upon first spin, while equally devastating was its constant references, name-dropping the likes of Orville Redenbacher and Dennis Rodman for a jabbing punch line.
Using a vocal sample from Tribe's "I Left My Wallet In El Segundo (Vampire Mix)" for the titular hook, the top ten hit gave us a reason to believe that from here on in VD can smoothly be worked into any rhyme, and that "shy bitches" everywhere are shedding tears in unison over such harsh rejection by the hottest player in the game.
