Viral genre explorer Lil Nas X has turned plenty of heads with his music, most notably "Old Town Road," but last week he made headlines for another reason when he came out as a member of the LGBTQ community. His statement was a little vague, but he's now gone on the record to clarify he is gay.
Lil Nas X appeared on BBC Breakfast to explain he doesn't want to keep any secrets from his fans. He said he "kind of revealed" the truth on Twitter. When the host asked what he revealed specifically, Lil Nas X said, "That I am gay."
As for why he did it, Lil Nas X explained he wanted to open doors for other LGBTQ artists in both hip-hop and country, genres where he says "it's not really accepted" to be gay. He also said he had considered keeping his homosexuality a secret, but felt he owed it to his fans and himself to tell the truth.
