Liima Announce Debut Album 'ii,' Share New Single

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Jan 13, 2016

Liima brings together the talents of Finnish percussionist Tatu Rönkkö with Mads Brauer, Casper Clausen and Rasmus Stolberg of Danish indie rock band Efterklang, and the Scandinavian supergroup have just announced that their debut album will arrive on March 18 via 4AD.

Deceptively titled ii, the record features tracks that were written during stays in Finland, Berlin, Istanbul and Madeira. Each city served as the band's home for four-week periods, culminating with a live concert showcasing the music that had been written in that locale. The resulting material was taken to Vox-Ton studio in Berlin last fall, where the group worked with producer Jonas Verwijnen, laying down the album in a quick three-day session.

The band have offered a glimpse into the new material with the release of lead single "Amerika." An interesting and cleverly arranged jumble of synths, samples and rhythms, it serves as an intriguing introduction into the global sounds of Liima.
