The artist says it will be "by far my most care-free and fierce album yet"

After delivering a collection of acoustic recordings with Midnight Machines last year, Canadian pop mainstay Lights is setting her sights on an ambitious new multimedia project.

Titled Skin & Earth, the project is set to encompass both a new full-length record and a series of comic books written and illustrated by Lights (born Valerie Anne Poxleitner) herself. The album is set to arrive in the fall through Warner Bros. Records, while the first issue of the comic book will arrive July 12 through Dynamite Entertainment.

A press release describes the comic series as "an adventurous tale of loneliness and deceit" that "ultimately becomes one of self-discovery and independence." Set in a post-apocalyptic future, the series will follow protagonist En, who is a reflection of the author.

A teaser video for the series can be found below.

"I feel my whole life has lead up to a project like this," Lights said in a statement. "It's a complete convergence of everything I love — music, comics, post-apocalyptic romance, crystals, wine and powerful ladies, all perfectly entwined. It'll be by far my most care-free and fierce album yet. I think now, more than ever, people need a reason to listen to a whole record, and this is mine."

Dynamite CEO and publisher Nick Barrucci added, "In recent years, the worlds of comic books and music have come together to produce some of the most exciting and immersive books on stands. To have the opportunity to work with such a talented and dedicated musician who is both writing and drawing the series herself will be a truly unique treat for both her fans and ours."
