Lightning Bolt's Brian Chippendale Preps Black Pus LP for Thrill Jockey

BY Gregory AdamsPublished Jan 16, 2013

Noise rock fans may know Brian Chippendale primarily as the drummer/vocalist for Rhode Island face-melters Lightning Bolt, but the musician has been issuing solo releases as Black Pus since 2006. He's finished another one-man outing called All My Relations, and it drops via his new label home Thrill Jockey on March 19.

A press release notes that the eight-song LP was recorded by producers Keith Souza and Seth Manchester (the Body, Battles, Skull Defekts) at their Machines with Magnets studio in Pawtucket, RI. The studio experience is said to have added clarity to Black Pus' sound, though it still features the same kinds of drums, vocals, and oscillated loops and rhythms Chippendale explored on 2011's Primordial Pus. Even so, the pop tendencies of Black Pus are apparently even more prominent than before.

Song samples have yet to arrive, but tracks like "1000 Years" and "Hear No Evil" apparently home in on a "sound of wild abandon that is both aggressive and inviting." You can check the tracklisting down below and the cover art up above.

2. Fly on the Wall

3. 1000 Years
