Light Fires

'FACE' (album stream)

Gentleman Reg typically specializes in strummy indie rock songs, but lately he's been branching out with his electronic pop project Light Fires, with whom he performs in drag under the name Regina the Gentlelady. The band, which also features Ohbijou's James Bunton, will self-release FACE on July 30, and the album is available to stream in full ahead of time at Exclaim.ca.

The 11-track collection is packed with synth-driven rave-ups, from the hook-filled "Dependent" (featuring a vocal cameo from Owen Pallett) to the squelchy and urgent pulse of "If You're Bored." The only significant stylistic change-up is the short ambient sketch "Together, This Sunrise Is Ours," although tracks like "Flow Step" and "Call It Like That" also inject some moody atmospherics into the proceedings.

All in all, it's an engaging listen, and you can soak it all in below. Plus, check out the newly premiered video for "Dependent" here.

To celebrate the release of FACE, Light Fires will play an album release show in Toronto at the Piston on August 1.
