Library Voices Announce 'For John' EP

BY Alex HudsonPublished May 1, 2014

We already knew that Prairie pop ensemble Library Voices would be hitting the road in June, and it turns out that they will be bringing a new EP with them. For John will be out on June 10 via the band's open Prairie Shag Recordings.

The EP is named after John Farrell, a former radio DJ from Buffalo who was a friend and supporter of the band before he died in 2013. It consists of seven songs, which were recorded over a few days this past March.

A press release describes For John like this: "Making an intentional turn away from the band's familiar, pop-infused, harmony-filled hooks, to a more lo-fi, homespun affair, the EP still succeeds in connecting the spirit of Library Voices to the listener via their constants of uncompromisingly insightful lyrics and incomparably clever instrumentation."

See the tracklist below, along with the group's updated summer schedule. At the bottom of this page, see a teaser video for the EP, which includes a clip of surf rock-inspired music (judging by the lyrics, this is the song "Space Age").

More releases from Prairie Shag are expected before long.
