Liam Cormier's Cancer Bats Offshoot AxeWound Announce 'Vultures'

A Canadian hardcore hero travels to the UK to play with some noted heavy music enthusiasts to form a supergroup of sorts. Sounds like it could be the summary for a story on the now Wade MacNeil-fronted Gallows, no? It seems as if there's a bit of a trend taking shape on the other side of the pond, as Cancer Bats vocalist Liam Cormier has taken a similar route to form his new project AxeWound.

The outfit was formed by Cormier and Brit metal guitarist Matt Tuck of Bullet for My Valentine, and the group will take it to the next level when they release their debut disc Vultures in the UK on October 1 via Search and Destroy/RCA. Rounding out the lineup are Pitchshifter drummer Jason Bowld, Glamour of the Kill six-stringer Mike Kingswood and ex-Rise to Remain bassist Joe Copcutt.

Vultures' tracklisting has yet to pop up, but the 11-song outing was tracked in Cardiff by Bullet for My Valentine producer Martin Ford over the course of 11 days. Apparently the band went into the studio fresh, with no pre-conceptualized material.

"It was very intense, very demanding but that's how we wanted it to be," Tuck said in a statement. "No pre-writing, no rehearsing… just booking a studio and going in and doing a song a day. We wanted to capture something that happened right there and then."

Cormier added, "The record is great because it's been made by a bunch of friends who are just enjoying themselves playing together and doing something that's different to what they normally do."

A North American release date has yet been set for Vultures. In the meantime, you can check out album track "Cold" in the stream below and head here to check out all the band's recently revealed dates.
