Perhaps best known as the bassist and vocalist in Primus, Les Claypool recently announced a new project that finds him teaming up with Sean Lennon under the banner of the Claypool Lennon Delirium. The pair have now revealed plans for their debut full-length, which is titled Monolith of Phobos and will arrive on June 3 through ATO Records.
The pair met while on tour with their bands the Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger and Primus, and Claypool was struck by Lennon's musical style.
"Sean is a musical mutant after my own heart," Claypool said in a press release. "He definitely reflects his genetics — not just the sensibilities of his dad [John Lennon] but also the abstract perspective and unique approach of his mother [Yoko Ono]. It makes for a glorious freak stew."
Of his new musical counterpart, Lennon said, "It's been an honour and a challenge playing with someone of Les' calibre, but luckily the Gods of Pinot Noir shone favorably down and granted us a bundle of devilish tunes about monkeys, outer space and sexual deviancy."
An example of that eccentric musical material has arrived with a new single called "Mr. Wright," and you can give it a listen below.
The Claypool Lennon Delirium will head out on the road this summer, joined by a live band that features the Beastie Boys' Mark Ramos Nishita and the Fungi Band's Paul Baldi. There are currently no Canadian stops scheduled, but you can find the full list of upcoming shows across the United States here.
