Next month, Chilly Gonzales, the National, Sufjan Stevens and more will come together in Montreal to celebrate the life and work of the late Leonard Cohen as part of Leonard Cohen – Une brèche en toute chose (or A Crack in Everything). Now, an accompanying concert series will put the spotlight on Montreal artists performing some of Cohen's classic albums in full.
The five-concert series — arranged by Pop Montreal in collaboration with the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal (MAC) — will bring a different group of artists to the the city's Church of the Gesù each month starting in November. All shows will feature orchestral accompaniment, with additional artists set to be announced closer to the dates of each show.
The first show, taking place November 30, will see Little Scream, Martha Wainwright and Thus Owls perform Cohen's I'm Your Man. Pierre Kwenders and Katie Moore will then cover New Skin for the Old Ceremony in December, while Marie-Pierre Arthur and Laura Sauvage will tackle Songs from a Room in January.
Dear Criminals and Un Blonde will take on The Future in February, while Coeur de pirate and Ariane Moffat will perform Songs of Leonard Cohen in March.
Tickets go on sale on October 19 and will cost $35 (tax included), while MAC members can get their stubs for $30 (tax included). You can find them the day of sale here.
