Leonard Cohen

'Old Ideas' (album stream)

BY Alex HudsonPublished Jan 23, 2012

There are few events on the Canadian music calendar as momentous as a new album from Leonard Cohen. The Montreal songwriting legend's last proper LP came out way back in 2004, so his forthcoming Old Ideas has been hotly anticipated. It will arrive on January 31 via Columbia Records, but until then, you can stream the whole thing right here at Exclaim.ca.

A press release already promised us that these ten songs "poetically address some of the most profound quandaries of human existence -- the relationship to a transcendent being, love, sexuality, loss and death."

The collection is produced by Patrick Leonard, Anjani Thomas, Ed Sanders and Dino Soldo, and they helped to created what is "arguably the most overtly spiritual of the revered artist's albums." Guest vocalists include Dana Glover, Sharon Robinson, the Webb Sisters (Hattie and Charley Webb) and Jennifer Warnes.

This is Cohen's 12th album overall. If you like what you hear in the streaming player below, be sure to pre-order your copy over at iTunes.
