Lee Hazlewood

“Requiem For An Almost Lady”

BY Jon BartlettPublished Dec 1, 1999

“Requiem For An Almost Lady,” like the already-reissued Cowboy In Sweden, contains music from a Torbjörn Axelman film of the same name. Like Cowboy, this record is pure brilliance. Evoking an America since lost in complexity, Requiem brings us back ever so easily and fantastically with tales of loneliness and despair that we all long for from time to time. A tribute to all his memories of past ladies, Hazlewood salutes all the passion and disappointments of his past. His amazing ability to reel us in and create nostalgia for a time we never knew is best exemplified here, and, along with Cowboy, adds further evidence of his musical genius and profound influence.
