In what's surely one of the more memorable band names we've heard in some time, Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones has teamed up with Norwegian ambient master Helge Sten — a.k.a. Deathprod — to form Minibus Pimps. They will release Close to the Ground on March 3 through SusannaSonata.
According to FACT, the album takes its name from a title they found on the 2003 experimental compilation China: The Sonic Avant-Garde. The tracks were apparently recorded at various live shows.
The band first emerged in 2011. Their Facebook page describes the collaboration like this: "Using electronics, samplers, processors, instruments and iPads, the duo will be creating instrumental improvisations that will at times be ferocious and at others intricate."
Below, watch a short clip of one of the outfit's live shows.
Jones has collaborated with numerous bands during his post-Zeppelin career. This includes Them Crooked Vultures, his supergroup with Dave Grohl and Josh Homme.
