There are few selectors in the industry better suited for peak time than Frenchman Laurent Garnier. Speicher 95 - Tribute EP, the producer's first release on Cologne-based label Kompakt Extra is rooted in techno, the tracks moving with a fluidity that closely resembles the critically acclaimed poetics of his highly technical set curation and its seamless transitions.

Speicher 95 - Tribute EP boasts a narrative movement that only a DJ with extensive dance floor experience can articulate. Simple and without excessive flourish, tracks like "1-4 Doctor C'est Chouette" move between an understated, pulsating rhythm and immersive synths. The heavy bass of "From the Crypt to the Astrofloor" is immediately reminiscent of the heat that numbs the club at 3 in the morning.

The EP's cuts are, according to Garnier, born from an intimate place, despite their peak time orientation: "There are times in our lives when we should dedicate a little something to people or places that are important to us," he says of the release. "This is what this record is all about: just to say I love you, I miss you or just simply thank you."
