Lauren Mann and the Fairly Odd Folk have played hundreds of shows in the last four years, but the Alberta road warriors settled down for long enough to record a new album, Over Land and Sea, which arrives on April 9 through Wanderer Records. Until that official release date, stream the whole thing on Exclaim.ca.
The disc was produced by Aaron Marsh in Lakeland, FL. A press release promises "a wide array of instrumentation, beautiful harmonies, and lyrics that tell of whimsical adventures."
This translates in stylistic turns like the quirky ukulele/banjo ditty "I Lost Myself," the jauntily bouncy "How It Goes" and the sombre waltz "Of Life and of Death." There are also plenty of intricately arranged, harmony rich, instrumentally diverse folk pop tunes.
